Which monitor do you have?

Flat panel or tube? That decides where it goes.

Look at the back. A flat panel a few inches deep is an LCD or LED monitor. A deep, heavy box behind the screen is a CRT.

Why it matters

Why old monitors don’t belong in the trash.

Older LCDs contain mercury

Many LCD monitors made before about 2010 use fluorescent backlights that contain a small amount of mercury.

We recycle them responsibly. Nothing goes to the landfill.

CRTs contain lead

The glass in tube monitors and TVs contains lead, which is why they need special handling.

Take CRTs to the City HHW at 7030 Culebra Rd.

The City asks you to keep it out of the cart

San Antonio treats e-waste as household hazardous waste, which never goes in curbside carts.

Drop it off with us or at a City site instead.

Before you drop off

Before you drop off a monitor.

Monitors don’t store your files, so there’s nothing to wipe. A few things make drop-off quicker.

Check the type

Flat panel? Bring it to us. CRT or TV? Take it to the City HHW.

Ask if it’s worth cash

A working monitor, 22 inches or larger and under five years old, may be worth selling.

Bring the extras

Stands, cables and power adapters can come with it.

Drop it off

Bring it in Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 to 5:30 pm. No appointment needed.
