Why it matters
Why an old laptop shouldn’t go in the trash.
Your data is still on it
Deleting files or resetting Windows doesn’t always remove them. A laptop in the trash can end up in someone else’s hands with your accounts and photos on it.
We securely destroy the data on every drive, free.
Lithium batteries start fires
Laptop batteries can catch fire when they’re crushed in a garbage truck or at a recycling facility.
Leave the battery in and bring the whole laptop to us.
The City asks you to keep it out of the cart
San Antonio treats e-waste as household hazardous waste, which never goes in curbside carts.
Drop it off with us instead. Nothing goes to the landfill.
Before you drop off
Before you drop off a laptop.
We destroy the data either way. These steps just save you trouble later.
Back up your files
Copy anything you want to keep to a new computer, a USB drive or the cloud.
Sign out of your accounts
Sign out of Microsoft, Apple or Google and turn off Find My Device, so the laptop isn’t locked to you.
Check if it’s worth cash
Working and under five years old? Ask about selling it first.
