Why it matters
Client files don’t stop being confidential when a laptop is retired.
Deleted isn’t gone
Deleting files or resetting a computer often leaves documents that recovery software can bring back.
SSDs are purged and hard drives are destroyed.
Someone may ask
A client, an insurer or your own policies may call for proof of what happened to old drives.
Your certificate lists every drive by serial number and method.
Billable hours matter
Wiping drives and hauling equipment isn’t a good use of anyone’s time at the firm.
Free pickup for 20 or more units, Monday to Friday.
How it works
Recorded, sanitized, documented.
The same steps for every drive, from a solo practice to a full office.

NIST SP 800-88
How each drive is handled, and why.
NIST Special Publication 800-88 is the U.S. government’s guideline for media sanitization. It describes three levels: clear, purge and destroy.
Hard drives store data on spinning platters, so we destroy them. SSDs keep spare areas that an overwrite can miss, so we purge them using methods built for flash storage. The method is recorded for each drive, and your certificate shows it.
NIST publishes guidelines. It doesn’t audit or approve companies. Your firm decides what its own policies require.

FAQs
Common questions from law offices.
How should a law firm dispose of old computers?
Make sure the data on every drive is unrecoverable, and keep a record of what happened to each one. We sanitize every drive following NIST SP 800-88 and give you a certificate listing each drive by serial number and method.
What’s on the certificate?
Every drive by serial number, the method used on it (purged or destroyed) and the date. It’s free for businesses on request.
Do you take file servers?
Yes. Servers, switches and loose drives too. See server and network equipment recycling.
Is it free?
Yes, for 20 or more units picked up, and always free when you drop off. Data destruction and business certificates are free too. For fewer than 20 units, a small pickup fee may apply.
Can we bring in just the hard drives?
Yes. Loose drives are fine. Drop them off Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 to 5:30 pm, with no appointment.
What happens to the computers after the drives are sanitized?
They’re recycled. Nothing goes to the landfill.
