Back to school

Laptops for students in San Antonio.

For most students, a refurbished business laptop is the sweet spot: a Core i5, 8 to 16GB of RAM and an SSD handle papers, online classes, research and video calls, for less than a comparable new laptop. Ours are professionally refurbished Windows laptops from Dell, HP and Lenovo, with a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty handled at our shop.

Check the school’s list first

What a student laptop needs to handle.

Most students need:

  • Papers, slides and spreadsheets
  • Online classes and video calls
  • Research with lots of browser tabs
  • A battery that lasts between classes
  • Windows, if the school or a class requires it

Check before you buy if:

  • Your program lists required specs or software
  • A class needs a specific operating system
  • You’ll do engineering, design or video editing
  • You also want to play modern games

Schools and programs often publish a recommended laptop list. Bring it in and we’ll match it to what’s on the shelf.

By grade level

What to look for, from middle school to college.

Spend where it matters for the work, not on extras the student won’t use.

Middle and high school

Schoolwork, online assignments and video calls. A Core i5 with 8GB of RAM and an SSD is plenty.

Durable business laptops hold up to backpacks.

College

More tabs, bigger files and longer days. Aim for 16GB of RAM, an SSD and a good battery.

Check your program’s list for required specs.

Engineering, design and video

CAD, editing and design apps need more power. Look for a Core i7 and 16GB or more.

Ask about mobile workstations like the HP ZBook or Dell Precision.

Why business laptops

Why a refurbished business laptop beats a cheap new one.

Budget new laptops often cut corners on the screen, the keyboard and the amount of storage. Business laptops like the Dell Latitude and HP EliteBook were built for daily work and travel, with sturdier cases and keyboards made to be typed on all day.

Refurbished, they cost less than they did new, and ours are inspected, have every part tested, and come with a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. If something fails mid-semester, the fix is at a shop in town, not in a mail-in queue.

Before you buy

Four things to check on a student laptop.

Our listings show the specs. Call if you’re not sure.

An SSD

It’s the biggest single difference in how fast a laptop feels. Every student laptop should have one.

8GB of RAM, 16GB for college

8GB covers schoolwork. 16GB keeps things smooth with many tabs and apps open.

Screen size and weight

13 to 14 inches is easy to carry. 15.6 inches gives more screen for long study sessions.

Windows 11

Most of our laptops run Windows 11. The listing says which version is installed.
